Those are equally valid reasons to pick one race over another. Pick what you think looks funny and unique. I have a feeling it will be the same with classic. I never felt the need to reroll to get different racials. I never felt gimped and never felt like I didn't have enough utility. I rolled an undead rogue in vanilla and I loved it. Whatever you choose, I think you'll be happy. But the one gnome rogue that kicked ass? We've kept in touch to this day. In vanilla, i feel like the majority of the good alliance rogues on my server were human (probably because humans are optimal for raiding and raid gear > pvp gear), and I barely remember any of their names. The only real reason to go gnome, i think, is because its absolutely hilarious.
